Season status: Kailash yatras are on hold after the August 2026 Rasuwa floods, and the Rasuwagadhi–Kerung road crossing is currently closed. The 2026 Indian-passport quota was full. We are now taking enquiries for a 2027 priority list.

Required documents

What Indian pilgrims need

Every Indian pilgrim needs a valid passport, because the Chinese group visa issued in Kathmandu is issued against it. Send us scans 4–6 weeks before departure — the Tibet Travel Permit is obtained only by a registered agency and needs advance approval from Chinese authorities.

Tibet permit timeline

Under the 2026 rules, documents must be submitted at least 30 days before entry into Tibet (2027 terms are confirmed later). Tibet Travel Permit + Chinese group visa usually take 21–28 working days.

Indian Passport (valid 6+ months)

Required for international travel and the Chinese Group Visa. Must have at least 2 blank pages.

Election ID / Voter ID Card

Accepted for entering Nepal only. It cannot replace a passport for Tibet — the Chinese group visa issued in Kathmandu requires a passport, and any existing Chinese visa in it is cancelled.

4 passport-size photos

White background, recent (within 6 months). Required for the Tibet Travel Permit and Chinese group visa applications.

Medical fitness certificate

Issued by any registered MBBS doctor confirming fitness for high-altitude travel (5,600 m). Mandatory for overland packages.

Yellow fever certificate

Only required if you have travelled to a yellow-fever-risk country in the past 6 months. Not commonly applicable.

Frequently asked questions

Indian pilgrims ask

How much does Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2027 cost from India?
Package prices are on request, and 2027 rates will be quoted once the season is confirmed. The overland route costs less than the helicopter route via Lucknow/Nepalgunj. Packages include Tibet permit and Chinese group visa applications, accommodation, meals arranged (details in your quote), an English/Hindi-speaking guide, and a duffel bag, sleeping bag and down jacket on loan. International flights from India and personal expenses are not included.
Is Kailash Mansarovar Yatra open from India right now?
Not at present. Kailash yatras are on hold after the August 2026 Rasuwa floods, and the Rasuwagadhi–Kerung road crossing is currently closed. The 2026 Indian-passport quota was also full. We are taking enquiries for a 2027 priority list and will contact listed pilgrims first once departures are confirmed.
Can Indian citizens travel to Mount Kailash without a passport?
No. Voter ID is accepted for entering Nepal, but on the overland route from Nepal every pilgrim travels on a Chinese group visa issued in Kathmandu, which requires a valid passport. Any existing Chinese visa in the passport is cancelled when the group visa is issued.
Which Indian city has the easiest route to Kailash Mansarovar?
Lucknow offers the shortest route — direct flight to Nepalgunj, then helicopter to Hilsa and onwards to Kailash in 10–11 days. Delhi offers the most flight options to Kathmandu and is preferred by pilgrims from northern and western India. Gorakhpur is the most economical entry point for overland yatra via Sunauli border, popular with group bookings from UP and Bihar.
When is the best time for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra for Indian pilgrims?
The yatra season runs May to mid-October. Saga Dawa usually falls in May–June (exact 2027 dates are published once confirmed) and is the most spiritually significant period — Hindu and Buddhist traditions agree this is when merit is multiplied 100,000 times at Kailash. July–August offers green landscapes but rain at lower altitudes. September has the clearest skies and stable weather, ideal for first-time pilgrims.
Do I need a Chinese visa for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?
Yes — on the overland route from Nepal every pilgrim (including Indians) travels on a Chinese group visa issued in Kathmandu, and any existing Chinese visa in your passport is cancelled. The Tibet Travel Permit can only be obtained by a registered agency; we apply for both as part of every package, and issue is at the authorities' discretion. The group visa is valid only for your yatra group and dates. Allow 4–6 weeks before departure.
How fit do Indian pilgrims need to be for Kailash Parikrama?
The 3-day Kailash Parikrama covers ~52 km at altitudes of 4,500–5,600 m. For helicopter yatra: minimal walking — suitable for pilgrims aged 60–70 and those with mild heart/diabetic conditions. For overland yatra: moderate fitness required, 2–3 weeks of cardio prep recommended. Ponies and porters are available throughout the parikrama at additional cost. We provide oxygen support and a guide doctor on every overland departure.
What is the age limit for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from India?
Pilgrims over 70 are not permitted on Kailash under Chinese authority rules, on both overland and helicopter packages. Pilgrims 60+ must submit a fitness certificate from an MBBS doctor. Children under 18 are not permitted on the Tibet permit.
How do I pay for the yatra from India?
Most Indian pilgrims pay in three instalments: 30% deposit at booking (to confirm your seat), 40% one month before departure, and 30% balance on arrival in Kathmandu. We accept Indian credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Rupay, Amex), UPI / Google Pay / PayTM (coming soon), bank transfer in INR or USD, or cash on arrival.
